Con/ Pro Essay Would my society be possible in today's world?

Societies do not last forever. There are flaws in any system, and as shown by past societies, none last forever. Conflicts arise through many things. Judgment, greed, and unhappiness can be the end to any society if not handled correctly. Under certain values and beliefs that transcendentalists hold, a society could flourish in modern day society. In Transcentopia, all citizens sport certain values that could help a transcendentalist society flourish today. Values in Transcentopia consist of being yourself, humans are innately good, and to follow your heart. Although some people think that a transcendentalist society would never work in today’s society, the transcendentalist beliefs, being yourself, humans are innately good, and following your heart, are why a transcendentalist society could be possible today.
Values in Transcentopia consist of being yourself, humans are innately good, and to follow your heart. Because humans are full of natural sin, and because of actions of real societies in the past, Transcentopia is considerably unrealistic. Humans have, and always will be greedy. No matter what opportunities are thrust at them, they will always want more. Similar to communist Russia and their actions from the past, all citizens are offered the same thing. Nevertheless, citizens in Russia were not happy, and when they knew that their work was taking them nowhere, they began to slack off, and this ruined the system. Under freedom offered by this transcendentalist society, citizens will always be allowed their own opinions and beliefs. Under this freedom there will always be one, if not more, who judge others because they are in some way different. A transcendentalist society is unrealistic because there is no way to avoid conflict. Although societies in the past prove never to be a utopian community, under certain transcendentalist beliefs, Transcentopia could thrive as a society.
In Transcentopia, there are many values and beliefs that all citizens follow. One of which is the belief that being yourself is the most important thing you can do. When this sort of belief is focused upon in society, the result is citizens also accepting others for who they truly are. In this society, no person would ever fear of being judged for their beliefs or values, and as a result would refrain from judging others. Acceptance would be a major difference in Transcentopia than of modern societies today. Conflicts over homosexuality, religion, and ethnicity would become nonexistent under these transcendentalist beliefs. Major conflicts that are apparent in real societies today like war and racism would never happen in a city like Transcentopia. Major conflicts are usually a result of arguments over differences, like racism and differences in religion. From actions portrayed by societies today, it is obvious that major conflicts are caused by differences in religion. The war in the Middle East show societies bitterness towards any culture that is different. In a city like Transcentopia, under transcendentalist beliefs, major conflicts like war would never occur. In Transcentopia, without major conflicts, the society would just continue to flourish and sport its values.
Other transcendentalist values held under Transcentopia, is the belief that humans are innately good. In Transcentopia one of the main buildings on Main Street is the National Bank. At the NBT, bankers specialize in keeping the economy at its best. The Bank is meant to keep their society out of poverty. All citizens are supported under this bank, and no person is ever poor or offered less than any other person. With the belief that humans are innately good, all citizens abide by the amount that they are given, and never get greedy. With support from this system, no person is ever unhappy under this system, and no one ever wants to ruin the system. Similar to communist Russia and their actions from the past, all citizens are offered the same thing. Nevertheless, citizens in Russia were not happy, and when they knew that their work was taking them nowhere, they began to slack off, and this ruined the system. All values held under this transcendentalist society support the happiness of its people. When all citizens are happy, they are driven to maintain the values and continue the system.
Following your heart, and trusting your instinct is another value held under this transcendentalist society. With help from the academy, all citizens are encouraged to be imaginative and individual. They are taught to follow their dreams, and as they grow up, they do. All citizens grow up to be exactly what they want to be and follow their hearts desire. All citizens are extremely happy when they are where they want to be, and as a result, society works efficiently. When a person loves their job, they do it well, consequently, society stays organized. Transcentopia, with no poverty, no judgment, and efficient citizens, would flourish under its transcendentalist beliefs.  With all citizens being truly happy, no conflicts would ever arise, and no citizen would ever have to stress or worry. When all citizens are happy under the society that is supported by transcendentalist beliefs, they will do one thing against them, and that is conform to the system to help maintain their happiness.
Transcentopia would thrive with the transcendentalist beliefs that it is supported by. Being yourself, would eliminate judgment and major conflicts and would create acceptance. The value that humans are innately good, would keep all citizens out of poverty. Following your heart, would support the system and encourage happiness. All values under Transcentopia support the welfare and happiness of its citizens. When all citizens are happy, they will continue to support and maintain the system, helping the city thrive. Although some people think that a transcendentalist society would never work in today’s society, the transcendentalist beliefs, being yourself, humans are innately good, and following your heart, are why a transcendentalist society could be possible today.

Dead Poets Society, dangers of Conformity

In the movie, Dead Poets Society, conformity plays one of the most major roles for the development of the plot and conflicts.  At Welton, an all-male academy, the students are taught to conform in order for their school system to work. In addition to the all male student body, their teachers are also all older Caucasian men that each teach their students in the same way. Welton follows strict values that also support their conformity, their motto of tradition, honor, discipline and excellence uphold their reputation to keep the students in order. Each student is taught to dress the same, achieve high academics, and speak in an educated manor. The purpose of Weltons conformity is to maintain a high reputation in society through educating their students to a point where they will achieve greatness. Although their strict values are constantly enforced throughout the movie, a group of students begin to rebel against their ancient principles. The strict rules of conformity later lead to major conflicts that jeopardize the reputation of the school and the student’s lives. Although conformity at Welton was enforced to maintain an excellent school system, their firm rules that supported conformity later lead to conflicts that result in the loss of life and reputation.
John Keating, a graduated Welton student himself, is introduced to the new student body as a teacher with unorthodox teaching standards for Welton. He teaches the students to go against the grain, and resist conformity in order to be themselves. He supports the student’s ideas, and is looked down upon by the other Welton teachers. When a group of students begin rebelling against the conformity the Welton built for them, conflicts begin to arise, putting them in danger. Charlie, places an unconventional article in the paper, stating that girls should be allowed to attend the school. Charlie is later beaten by the head of Welton for his unruly behavior. Knox falls in love with a girl named Chris, which results in him getting beaten up by her boyfriend. Neil gets a main role in a play, and begs his father to allow him to star in it. When his father says no, he does so anyway, and results in his father taking him from Welton to send him to military school. Neil kills himself, rather than following his father’s rules. The stress that these students were under from their schools strict principles pushed them to go against the conformity in an effort to be themselves. The conformity only brought danger to these students and resulted in the loss of life. Although all was blamed on Keating for his support of the nonconformity, the true culprit is the school.

Transcendentalism Post: Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez
Throughout history, transcendentalism has become a part of an idealistic philosophy and has become a major social movement. Transcendentalism is a philosophy in which their beliefs consist of believing in yourself, and not being discouraged by others views around you. A true transcendentalist is someone who would absolutely be themselves, and would express views that support that same philosophy.
Selena Gomez, can be described as a true transcendentalist. Through her conveyance of transcendentalist views through her music, she has been able to move a younger audience in support of these beliefs. Her music supports the belief in yourself despite what others around you might think, and is against negative opinions of others. The use of her music has helped move a large audience in support of transcendentalist views by expressing that everyone is different, and that your potential is whatever you make of it. In her song, Who Says, her transcendentalist beliefs are shown through her lyrics.
You made me insecure,
Told me I wasn’t good enough.
But who are you to judge
When you’re a diamond in the rough?
I’m sure you got some things
You’d like to change about yourself.
But when it comes to me
I wouldn’t want to be anybody else.
Her music supports her younger audience to build their own self-idealistic ideas about achieving their goals and aspiring to become whatever they want to be.

Selena also expresses her same transcendentalist views through her personal life. Although she does not dress eccentrically, or express wild views, which may have supported a more transcendentalist belief, the way she handles her personal life is an example of her transcendentalism. Her personal relationship, which is her relationship with star, Justin Bieber, shows how she uses the transcendentalist views that she expresses in her music. Justin Bieber is world known and has millions of female fans. After the two began dating, Selena underwent some extremely negative and sometimes violent slander. Fans of Bieber, all over the world began to insult and threaten Selena for her relationship. And because of her transcendentalist views, Selena has been able to ignore all of the malicious comments and enjoy her life.

Selena can be described as a true transcendentalist through her music and her beliefs.
